Italians want to live in neighborhoods where there are more stores: for 88% , the presence of commercial establishments is decisive in the choice of where to live: only 1 person in 10 prefers to live in an exclusively residential area, without proximity services. This was revealed by a survey conducted by Confcommercio in collaboration with SWG, as part of the “Cities” project that deals with countering commercial desertification in Italian cities. The effects of the presence of commercial establishments on real estate values are also very significant: the same property could see its value increase by at least 20% when placed in a residential area with many proximity stores, while in a neighborhood where commercial desertification phenomena are taking place, it could lose 15%, with an overall differential, therefore, of more than a third.
