The European Commission has issued six recommendations to Italy regarding respect for the rule of law and press freedom. In the report presented, Brussels recommends that Rome digitize criminal courts and prosecutors' offices; adopt the pending legislative proposal on conflicts of interest and establish an operational register for lobbying; regulate information on the financing of parties and electoral campaigns; protect journalists and ensure media independence; and establish a national human rights institution in accordance with UN principles.
