Google is reportedly in talks with Essilux to incorporate Gemini, the group's AI assistant, into new models of smart glasses. The indiscretion would confirm Big tech's growing interest in glasses as a new category for smart devices, partly due to the success of Ray-Ban Meta. According to the article published by The Verge, an international tech news site, this rapprochement would also underlie Meta's decision to strengthen its partnership with Essilux and consider a billion-dollar entry into the capital. EssilorLuxottica spokesmen, contacted by Milano Finanza, preferred not to comment at this time. The agreement between Essilux, a group that capitalizes 90 billion euros, and Meta would not be exclusive (on either side), so it is possible that there are ongoing evaluations between Essilux and other players that have developed their own AI platforms. What is certain is how active EssilorLuxottica is in recent days. First the announcement of the acquisition of Supreme for 1.5 billion dollars by the company led by Francesco Milleri, interested in launching a new version of Supreme smart sunglasses in collaboration with Meta, targeting young people. Then the Financial Times' indiscretion that Meta Platforms, a Silicon Valley company that owns Facebook and Instagram, was interested in exploring a billion-dollar investment in eyewear giant EssilorLuxottica, with a view to expanding its bet on smart glasses beyond the Ray-Ban Meta, which is gaining wide acceptance in the market after the launch of a revamped version.
