Israeli President Isaac Herzog, on a visit to Rome, was received yesterday at Palazzo Chigi by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who "reiterated the Italian government's closeness to Israel and firm condemnation of Hamas terrorism" and "renewed Italy's commitment to de-escalation at the regional level, recalling the role played by the Italian contingent on the border with Lebanon through Unifil and reiterating strong concern for the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip". "Stressing the importance of reaching a cease-fire and the release of hostages as soon as possible, working within the perspective of a two-state solution," Meloni "assured" President Herzog of the State of Israel "that Italy will continue to support U.S. mediation and bring assistance to the Palestinian civilian population, through the 'Food for Gaza' initiative”.
