Gianmarco Tamberi and President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella shared a historic moment at the European Athletics Championships, with the Head of State leaving the ceremony to closely observe the high jump final. The Olympic champion did not hesitate and threw himself into the stands to hug the Sicilian politician following his victory. The two met again on their way to Paris, where they shared the journey and visited the Olympic Village. The Italian champion and Mattarella's schedules coincided, with the former arriving in Rome with his wife Chiara on the evening of Wednesday, July 24, and departing for Paris the next morning. The latter met Israeli President Isaac Herzog at the Quirinal Palace before flying across the Alps with his daughter Laura to visit the Olympic Village. He was greeted by CONI President Giovanni Malagò and delegation head Carlo Mornati. All of this allowed the two to fly with a single state flight and discuss athletics once more. "I feel vaguely out of age", joked the Head of State in Paris while speaking to the Italian athletes. "You have the affection of all of Italy around you. Sincere affection that should not be interpreted as pressure. I am confident that you will compete with great commitment. The medals that will arrive will be appreciated. We just heard the anthem. It is best to hear it multiple times, but this, will be thank you. Medals will be important, but more important is your sense of sport".
