Three women, including the owner and two educators of a private kindergarten in Vanzago, near Milan, were placed under house arrest for aggravated mistreatment of 35 children aged six months to three years. The owner and five other educators were subjected to precautionary measures in January 2023, after the kindergarten had already been the subject of investigations. Despite the prohibition on practicing the profession, the owner would have continued to work and mistreat the children, with the help of two new educators. The investigations, conducted by the Investigative Unit under the direction of the Milan prosecutor's office led by Marcello Viola, stemmed from complaints made by two former educators in September 2023 about mistreatment. The investigations allowed authorities to identify and document the perpetrators' abusive behavior, which included yelling at children from a short distance, yanking them, pulling their ears, confining them to the dark or in the bathroom alone, and failing to change them when necessary. Two other educators from the structure are being investigated for the same crimes.
