An Italian Eurofighter crashed during the "Pitch Black" exercise in Australia for reasons that have yet to be determined. Except for the pilot, who ejected from the aircraft in time and landed in the sea. He was then located, recovered by Australian soldiers, and taken to the hospital; he was unharmed. The Air Force has directed "all the necessary investigations to define what happened so that similar events do not happen again" in relation to the causes of the accident, which is the third involving the EFA 2000 Typhoon, a fourth-generation multirole aircraft, since 2017. Local authorities are also conducting investigations after delimiting the area of the fall. 140 aircraft and 4.500 soldiers from 20 nations participate at the "Pitch Black". "Our staff", says exercise commander Air Commodore Peter Robinson, "worked quickly to respond to this situation and help recover the pilot, who had indicated his location by radio."
