Household consumption spending in 2024 reaches an average of 21,778 euros per capita, higher than pre-Covid levels but still 138 euros below the peak reached in 2007, with a boom in spending on phones and technology and a decline in more traditional purchases. A radical change in Italians' habits emerges from an analysis by the Confcommercio Studies Office, which delved into consumption from 1995 to 2024. They are below the levels of 30 years ago, in fact, spending on food (-10.6%), clothing (-3.9%), and furniture and appliances (-3.5%). Prominent among the changes are also those related to electricity. Probably due in part to the general efforts of households to reduce waste and the energy-saving policies adopted in recent times, electricity and gas consumption fell by 16.6%.
