After the Italian national water polo team's penalty shootout loss to Hungary in the quarterfinals, everything seemed more than decided with the bitterness of exiting the Olympics amid controversy but it may not be over. The appeal discussed yesterday morning at the World Athletics jury and requested by Italy against the refereeing decisions made during the match against the Hungarians was rejected. FIN Vice President Giuseppe Marotta, Italy's Technical Director Fabio Conti and player Francesco Condemi, who was ejected for violent play, were heard. A completely unintentional game contact that the referee, however, judged as the most serious among foul play in water polo. A decision that infuriated the entire blue expedition. The appeal filed by the Italian Swimming Federation with the Appeal Jury was therefore rejected, but a new appeal cannot be ruled out. Federnuoto, in fact, is considering filing a further appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (TAS) in Lausanne. In addition, the judge ruled that the match will not be replayed, Condemi also will not be disqualified. A real paradox, as the decision confirms that the Italian player's stroke was not violent and highlights the referees' mistake.
