Ruggero Tita and Caterina Banti lead Italian sailing to Olympus at the Paris 2024 Games. In fact, the Italian tandem established the law in the Nacra 17 in the waters of Marseille, thereby reaffirming its position on the top rung of the five-ring podium three years after its victory in Japan. This achievement has awarded the Italy Team its tenth gold medal, which is a record that has been equaled only by the Tokyo 1964, Athens 2004, and Tokyo 2020 teams. This is a legendary accomplishment. Never before had an Italian crew won two Olympic titles (especially in two consecutive editions). Tita and Banti completed a stunning course, winning six of the twelve Opening Series races. With a total of 47 (27 net points), they accumulated a commanding advantage on the eve of the last Medal Race, where they presented themselves as leaders and already confident of a podium spot. The Italian couple's dominance was further validated by their second place in the final race, where they finished with 31 net points, extending their lead over their direct competitors: the Argentines Mateo Majdalani and Eugenia Bosco (second with 55), the New Zealanders Micah Wilkinson and Erica Dawson (third with 63), and the British John Gimson and Anna Burnet (fourth with 69). The latter two were disqualified for an early start and prematurely excluded from the podium competition.
