Giancarlo Giorgetti, Minister of the Economy, has selected Daria Perrotta, a jurist, as the new Accountant General of the State. The 47-year-old is the first woman to hold the renowned job of custodian of public accounts, which is in charge of approving laws submitted by Parliament and the administration, ensuring that they are consistent with available financial resources. It is obviously not a "political" profile, even though Minister Giorgetti has always admired her work and wanted her to join him at Via XX Settembre. Education with top marks since the classical high school diploma at the Liceo Massimo in Rome, the same as Mario Draghi; then a degree in Political Science at Luiss and in Law in Urbino, Perrotta has a long institutional experience, beginning with her participation in the Chamber of Deputies' Budget Committee from 2000 to June 2020. She served as the legal advisor to Maria Elena Boschi during her tenure as the minister for reforms in the Renzi government in 2015-16. Additionally, she served as the coordinator of the Secretariat Office of the Council of Ministers during the first Conte government and as the advisor for Economic Affairs to the Minister of Culture, Dario Franceschini. In 2021, she was chosen head of cabinet at Palazzo Chigi by the Draghi government, and she previously served as deputy attorney general at the Lombard Prosecutor's Office of the Court of Auditors. Now she takes the role of Biagio Mazzotta, who was accused of underestimating the scale of the 110% Superbonus, which ended up costing 175 billion euros and destroying the public budget.
