Following the clashes between demonstrators and law enforcement officers at the pro-Palestine demonstration in Rome on Saturday, the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, called the Chief of Police yesterday to express his solidarity with the injured officers and to commend their work. Minister Matteo Piantedosi, on the other hand, complimented the police and the Rome police headquarters for "effective and balanced management of a difficult situation, to protect the safety of citizens". The demonstration resulted in four arrests, one of whom was detained, and the removal of nearly 200 individuals before it began. 51 of these individuals were issued an expulsion order for prior offenses against public order, while 150 chose to flee in order to avoid identification, being escorted to the outskirts of the province. "I express all my closeness and gratitude to the 34 police officers attacked and injured", said Piantedosi.
