Sammy Basso died at the age of 28. He was suffering from progeria, a rare hereditary condition that causes accelerated aging. His death was reported by the Italian Progeria Association Sammy Basso, for which he was the key testimonial since a young age. "Today, our light and guiding have been extinguished. Thank you, Sammy, for include us in this magnificent life", reads the message posted on the association's social media channels. Basso would have fallen unwell in a restaurant in Asolo. He was born in 1995 in Schio, Vicenza, and was diagnosed with Hutchinson-Gilford progeria when he was two years old. Despite the condition, he confronted his life with fortitude and tenacity, eventually becoming a well-known figure thanks to numerous media appearances and interviews. His experience was told to a large audience in the documentary film "Sammy's Journey," which chronicles his journey along Route 66 from Chicago to Los Angeles with his parents and friend Riccardo.
