Music is a passion, but also a significant economic sector, with a turnover of €3.076 billion in Italy, which rises to €4.3 billion including instruments and listening devices. Data from FIMI (Federation of the Italian Music Industry) presented at Milan Music Week illustrate a varied panorama, from discography (now mostly digital) to concerts, which represent the largest slice, with €967.4 million. The world of dance and royalties also contribute significantly. Exports, driven by the success of artists such as Måneskin, generate €58 million, while music teaching and sheet music sales add 239.2 and 65.7 million, respectively. While discography is not the largest segment, it remains central to the entire music industry, which is growing steadily: between 2022 and 2023, discography (+18.8%), concerts (+33%) and royalties (+22.3%) increase. With digital streaming booming, 2024 is set to be the tenth consecutive year of growth for music in Italy.
