It was 9 out of 10 Italians who followed the U.S. presidential election last November 5: a "considerable share, linked to the widespread awareness that the outcome of this electoral consultation may also indirectly impact the lives of Italian citizens". Reporting this is SWG in the new edition of Radar. To have been satisfied with Trump's second term in office is one in three Italians, a share, SWG points out, slightly up compared to his first election in 2016. However, SWG continues, the majority say they are disappointed with the result and there is no shortage of concerns with respect to the consequences of the Republican candidate's victory. Concerns are mainly about possible damage to the European economy due to protectionist policies, but there is also apprehension about a potential increase in international tensions. Overall, then, the election of Trump is not viewed positively by Italians. Indeed, it is feared it will bring predominantly negative consequences both in the United States and in the international arena. One exception is the conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine, with respect to which the view prevails that Trump will be able to make an effective impact. In particular, with regard to the war between Russia and Ukraine, the majority of Italians believe that Trump's election will be diriment for a quick resolution of the confrontation, although many predict that this will happen in the face of a strong penalty for Ukraine.
