Admiral Nicola Carlone, Commander General of the Coast Guard Corps, paid a visit to the US Coast Guard headquarters in Washington and met with its commander, Admiral Linda Lee Fagan. Various themes were covered at the meeting, with a focus on the substance of the memorandum of understanding signed in 2021 by the heads of the two organizations. “The meeting", stated Admiral Carlone, “confirms the close collaboration and growing partnership between the Italian Coast Guard and the U.S. Coast Guard", which he described as “an exemplary organizational model and a reference point for coast guard organizations worldwide” and serves as a demonstration of the "role and international projection - now consolidated - of the Italian Coast Guard". Admiral Fagan expressed strong appreciation for the cooperation with the Italian Coast Guard, congratulating Carlone on Italy's leadership in the upcoming Coast Guard Global Summit, Mediterranean Coast Guard Functions Forum, and European Coast Guard Functions Forum, set to take place in September 2025 in Rome. This was followed by a visit to the United States Coast Guard Academy in New London, where the appropriate training courses for future exchange initiatives were presented. In Washington, the Italian Coast Guard mission met with Italian Ambassador Mariangela Zappia and the head of the United States Department of Transportation's Maritime Administration.
