Atul Khare, United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Operational Support, and Ambassador Maurizio Massari, Italian Permanent Representative to the United Nations, signed a new agreement in New York to finance infrastructure improvements to the United Nations Global Logistics Services Center's headquarters in Brindisi. The agreement calls for the Brindisi structure to be strengthened and modernized thirty years after it was built. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani and UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres paid a visit to the structure in June. In addition to the improvements planned for the United Nations Centre, the Italian government aimed to enhance the city's international vocation by allocating funds to the European School of Brindisi, which was established by budget law in 2023. This initiative aimed to expand the local school offering, with a particular emphasis on the recruitment of experienced teaching and administrative staff who are native English speakers. Ambassador Massari underscored the significance of the United Nations Pole in Brindisi, which is also responsible for the delivery of humanitarian aid from the "Food for Gaza" initiative, which was initiated by Minister Tajani. He also noted that "new targeted infrastructure investments will enable the Service Centre to respond even more promptly and effectively to international emergencies".
