The Communications Guarantee Authority has launched a public consultation with the aim of introducing new regulations to combat fraud and aggressive telemarketing. The new rules aim to counter the phenomenon of CLI Spoofing, a practice that deceives users about the identity of the caller by manipulating the real telephone number. The Authority proposes that domestic operators be obliged to block illegitimate calls from abroad but masquerading as domestic numbers, including Italian landline area codes and Italian cell phone numbers. The measure also includes actions to ensure greater transparency and correct information regarding the economic and technical conditions of telephone and connectivity offers, including the adoption of labels certifying the speed of the 5G connection.
