Francesco Bagnaia's perfect weekend was insufficient to win his third MotoGP title in a row. At the final championship round in 2024, despite securing pole position, winning the Tissot Sprint gold, and claiming victory in Sunday’s race, Jorge Martin collected what he needed to claim the most coveted trophy, relegating Ducati Lenovo Team’s star to second place in the final standings. The Spaniard became world champion in the greatest form of motorcycling on the same day that the Italian achieved his eleventh victory of the season, achieved by leading the race from start to finish. In Barcelona, the season's bronze medal was also at stake; before the race, Bastianini had a five-point advantage over Marc Marquez. Ultimately, third place went to the Spaniard, who, thanks to finishing second behind Bagnaia, surpassed the rider from Romagna in the standings.
