The American-Italian Cancer Foundation, established in 1980 in New York by Umberto Veronesi, has awarded its "Special Recognition Award" to Gabriella Pravettoni, director of the psycho-oncology division at the European Institute of Oncology and professor of decision psychology at the University of Milan. For the first time, this prestigious award has been given to a psycho-oncologist. Pravettoni received the "Special Recognition Award" "for his important contribution to the development of psycho-oncology". "I am extremely honored to receive this 'award' from an Italian American institution whose founders include Umberto Veronesi", adds Pravettoni. "I matured professionally at IEO, the hospital created by the professor. The acknowledgment of the American-Italian Cancer Foundation solidifies the work that my colleagues and I have done in recent years and 'completes' the research bridge between Italy and the United States, adding the basic pillar of psycho-oncology".
