Three significant incidents involving UNIFIL installations and troops in southern Lebanon yesterday raised concerns about the safety of UN peacekeepers serving in the United Nations mission. One of these included the headquarters of UNIFIL's Western Sector in Shama, which houses the Italian contingent. Five rockets hit the base, causing damage to the repair workshop in particular. Five Italian soldiers are currently being monitored in the base's infirmary, although their conditions are not of special concern. Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani strongly condemned the attacks, stating: "They are believed to be light rockets from Hezbollah. It is unacceptable and intolerable to fire on the UNIFIL contingent".
