Eni has introduced HPC6, a novel High Performance Computing (HPC) system that enables users to increase their computing capacity from 70 petaflops per second to over 600 petaflops/s. In essence, the maxi calculator, that had been just built and launched by the Claudio Descalzi-led team, is capable of doing approximately 600 million billion difficult mathematical calculations per second. Eni's HPC6 ranks fifth in the Top500 ranking of the world's most powerful supercomputers, the only non-US system at the top and the first supercomputer ever in Europe. In relation to this new development, CEO Descalzi stated that "innovation and constant improvement of technologies are essential to maintain and strengthen Eni's leadership in the energy transition".
