The National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) proposes to renovate 40% of Italian schools with the goal of improving seismic safety, energy efficiency, and expanding facilities and gyms. The chapter dedicated to education has 50,530 initiatives. In addition to the physical spaces like classrooms, cafeterias, and gyms, these investments totaling $12.03 billion also cover the software used in schools, with 36,343 projects aimed at professional development for educators and students, as well as a small percentage of funding going toward programs like apprenticeships, internships, and school-to-work programs. There are thousands of initiatives dedicated to "training and education within compulsory schooling" that deal with creating new training paths, developing staff and student digital skills, improving orientation, and launching inclusion programs in the territories most affected by early school leaving. If fully implemented, the plan will rebuild or renovate 39.6% of Italy's public and private school buildings.
