Frigate Captain Walter Biot has been sentenced on appeal to 29 years in prison for selling secret documents to a Russian embassy official. This is just one of the legal proceedings Biot is facing. Parallel to the criminal trial, there is in fact the military one that, in the first instance, had already resulted in the defendant being sentenced to 20 years in prison. The affair begins on March 30, 2021, when a Carabinieri investigation culminates in Biot's arrest. In his vehicle, a Nissan Patrol, along with Dmitry Ostroukhov, a Russian embassy employee, crucial clues are found: a package of Crestor, a blood pressure drug, containing an SD card with 181 photos. These pictures reveal as many as 19 secret documents, but only four of them were disclosed during the trial. Biot is accused of selling this highly confidential information in exchange for 5,000 euros.
