In the first nine months of 2024, requests for help to 1522, the anti-violence and stalking number of the Prime Minister's Office, increased by 57% compared to the same period in 2023. From January to September, over 48,000 contacts were recorded via phone conversations, apps, and chats. If the trend continues, annual numbers could nearly double compared to 2022 (32,430) and 2021 (36,036). The majority of the calls are from Italian women who have been victims of domestic violence or stalking by partners or former partners. The most represented age range is 35 to 50 years old, while reports from younger women are increasing. Among foreign women, those from Eastern Europe and South America, often integrated into Italian society for some time, are the most numerous. Women from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka, on the other hand, are more likely to contact 1522, particularly in emergency situations or after being recommended by hospitals, teachers, or social services. A disturbing picture that emphasizes the need for more victim support and awareness initiatives.
