Four young hikers, three 19-year-olds and a 21-year-old, were stranded at an altitude of 1,900 meters in the Reggio Emilia Apennines, near Mount Cusna, due to a blizzard of sleet and wind that created dangerous ground ice conditions known as verglas. The boys, without crampons, raised the alarm as they found themselves in difficulty in the Febbio 2000 area. Emilia-Romagna Alpine Rescue technicians with two teams from Castelnovo Monti and Villa Minozzo, supported by firefighters, responded to the scene. Three of the hikers, in a mild state of hypothermia, were recovered on foot, while the fourth, more serious, was evacuated on a stretcher. Difficult weather conditions hampered the deployment of the 118 helicopter from Pavullo. Fortunately, all four were rescued thanks to the timeliness of the rescuers.
