Soil is a necessary resource for our existence by providing us with food, clean water and representing one of the main regulators of the Earth's climate, but, as of today, at great risk. This is underlined by the latest ISPRA (Istituto Superiore per la Protezione e la Ricerca Ambientale) report, according to which in our country we lose 2.5 square meters of soil per second, for a total of 77 km² per year. The report's data outline an alarming situation in Italy, from north to south, with regions registering particularly high levels of land artificialization, such as Lombardy, which, with 12.16% of the area now consumed, holds the national record, followed by Veneto with 11.88% and Campania with 10.52%.
