On Monday, representatives from the British Marine insurance consortium presented plans to the Termini Imerese prosecutor’s office and Palermo’s port authority for the recovery of the Bayesan, a large sailing vessel that sank on August 19 during a storm near Porticello, Sicily. In recent weeks, underwater reconnaissance has been conducted on the seabed at a depth of 49 meters to determine how to remove the wreck intact and without further damage: it is a complex and costly operation, but it is necessary to continue inquiries into the shipwreck's causes. The recovery will take place in January, and insurance firms will reimburse the costs. It is projected that it will cost up to €30 million. The Bayesan was insured under two policies covering damages up to €2 billion. Mike Lynch, 59, one of the wealthiest and most influential entrepreneurs in the United Kingdom, along with his daughter Hannah, 18 years old, Jonathan Bloomer, executive of Morgan Stanley International and president of Hiscox, his wife Anne Elizabeth, American lawyer Chris Morvillo of the international law firm Clifford Chance and his wife Neda Nassiri, and the ship's cook Ricardo Thomas, died on the night of Sunday 18/19 August.
