A meeting lasting about an hour between President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni took place at the Quirinale. The lunch, scheduled last week, was not related to recent parliamentary tensions over the RAI canon issue, but was part of an already set agenda to discuss issues of international and domestic importance. Among the topics discussed were Mattarella's recent mission to China, Meloni's trip to the G20 in Brazil, the economic maneuver and the European context, particularly in light of Raffaele Fitto's appointment as Executive Vice-President of the European Commission. Palazzo Chigi sources stressed that this is not the first time Mattarella and Meloni have met after major international trips, although in the past these talks have taken place with greater confidentiality. From the Quirinale they report that the dialogue took place in a "cordial and collaborative" atmosphere, confirming the willingness to maintain a constructive discussion on issues central to the country's future and its role in Europe.
