The water situation in Sicily, particularly between the provinces of Enna and Caltanissetta, has reached dangerous levels, resulting in a true "war between the poor" over water. The ongoing drought has drastically lowered reservoir levels, exacerbating the problem of water rationing. In some areas, distribution cycles now exceed a week, fueling public anger and protests. On Saturday morning, in the midst of the emergency, the mayors of five municipalities in the Enna area—Troina, Nicosia, Sperlinga, Gagliano Castelferrato, and Cerami—organized a vigorous protest. These municipalities rely totally on the Ancipa reservoir, which is in catastrophic condition. The mayors occupied the dam premises and attempted to obstruct the pipeline, contesting the control room's decision to restore the water supply to Caltanissetta and San Cataldo, which had been interrupted since November 15. A decision that, in their opinion, depletes important resources from an already overburdened area, while the reservoir's capacity continues to decrease, reaching complete dryness.
