Lapedona, a hillside municipality with a medieval imprint in the province of Fermo, is part of a fascinating territory inhabited since ancient times. In the surrounding area, in fact, artifacts from the Picenian and Roman ages have been found, testifying to the presence of settlements since ancient times. Probably the original castle of Lapedona incorporated the Church of San Quirico, thus forming the first nucleus of the present historic center, which arose instead in the early 1300s following the phenomenon of encastellation and with the transfer of the rural titles of the churches. Today the village is a small treasure chest containing treasures from the Marche region to be discovered: passing through the ancient Marina gate, still perfectly preserved, with a pointed arch adorned with Ghibelline battlements, one enters the historic center. It continues under the portico of the 16th-century Palazzo Comunale, embellished with dissimilar arches, where there is a Roman-era tombstone on which are inscriptions and bas-reliefs. Also worth seeing is the Church of St. Nicholas, decorated with a fine wooden ceiling, which displays a painting by Simone de Magistris on the high altar. A neoclassical portal, then, provides access into the parish church of Santi Giacomo e Quirico, which preserves where two wood carvings of particular artistic interest are preserved. Finally, in the surroundings of the village, it is possible to reach the small Church of Santa Maria Manù, which shows its simple Romanesque lines. At the end of the visit, Lapedona still has its cultural roots to offer, perfect for the curious and returning emigrants interested in learning more about Marche's traditions. For example, the patronal festival in mid-July dedicated to St. Quirico is a time to discover the devotion and spirituality of the local population. Typical dishes, moreover, reflect the Fermo tradition of peasant origin, offering egg pastas such as vincisgrassi, maccheroncini, fritto misto and, among the desserts, the ciambellotto della trebbiatura, accompanied by vino cotto or homemade mistrà. Between genuine flavors, places to admire and history to study, Lapedona is the perfect destination for anyone looking for unique experiences.
