Fincantieri's Ancona shipyard held the delivery of the new ship Viking Vela, the first in a series of cruise ships that the Italian shipbuilding group is building for shipowner Viking (which has its headquarters in Basel and Los Angeles). Viking Vela belongs to the small cruise ship segment: it has a gross tonnage of about 54,300 tons, is equipped with 499 cabins and can accommodate 998 passengers. Viking Vela is the 13th ship delivered by Fincantieri to Viking, including the two expedition vessels built by its subsidiary Vard. Considering the ships ordered to date and the contracts and options signed in recent months, the long-standing strong partnership between Fincantieri and Viking includes a total of 26 ships.
