"Volunteering is an important resource for the social cohesiveness of the community. We face increasingly broad challenges, and volunteer action is advocated as an effective component in dealing with scenarios that make our society more vulnerable. Volunteering is a generous manifestation of the Constitution's mandatory obligations to promote economic and social solidarity", stated Sergio Mattarella, President of the Republic, on the occasion of the International Day of Volunteering for Economic and Social Development. "As stated by the United Nations, the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals requires the contribution of each person, who through his or her voluntary commitment 'becomes part of the solutions'", added the Head of State. "The dedication to improving contemporary communities, particularly through many associative forms of volunteering, signals and restores optimism and prospects for rebirth even in the face of adversity and disaster. The Republic is grateful for the efforts of volunteers who, with an amazing attitude of charity and collaboration, provide important assistance every day".
