Giuseppe Verdi's "The Power of Fate", conducted by Riccardo Chailly and directed by Leo Muscato, opened the Teatro alla Scala's season with more than 12 minutes of applause. Among the audience's enthusiasm, there were also some "booing" directed at soprano Anna Netrebko. Verdi's opera, imbued with a strong condemnation of wars, was introduced by Superintendent Dominique Meyer, who stressed the importance of the theme: "We would like the return to peace with all our strength. There are too many wars in the world, and every peace is a victory for humanity, even if it is difficult to be optimistic today". The evening, opened by the performance of Mameli's Hymn, saw the absence of President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella, but prominent personalities such as Senate President Ignazio La Russa, Milan Mayor Giuseppe Sala, Culture Minister Alessandro Giuli, Lombardy Region President Attilio Fontana, and Senator Liliana Segre were present in the royal box.
