Employment growth and contract renewals give a boost to thirteenth month payments. More than 32 million Italian employees and retirees will receive the long-awaited additional monthly payment this year, totaling about 51.3 billion euros, 7.8% more than last year. This is estimated by Confesercenti, based on the usual survey on the use of the 13th month payment conducted by IPSOS on a sample of employees and pensioners living in Italy. A cash injection that will partly be absorbed by fixed expenses, pending accounts and savings, but should still have a significant impact on year-end consumption as well. Indeed, 78% of recipients plan to use some of it for vacation spending, from Christmas gifts to vacations, totaling more than 18.7 billion euros.
