An explosion yesterday at an ENI refinery in Calenzano, on the outskirts of Florence, left five people dead, 26 injured. The deflagration, felt as far away as Florence, was caused by a gasoline leak or vapor spill, which triggered the blast. The flames destroyed parked trucks, set fire to the structure's canopy and caused the partial collapse of an adjacent building. The victims are truckers who were on site for refueling. The Prato Public Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation to ascertain possible responsibility, while witnesses present at the time of the accident have been heard. Despite the serious impact, the City of Calenzano reassured citizens that there was no health risk.
