From fashion runways to lunar walks, the Puglia-based company Rea Space is revolutionizing spacewear. Located in Fasano (Brindisi), Rea Space is a company that specializes in the design, research, and development of protective tools and clothing for astronauts. More specifically, Rea space's bionic suits were paraded for the first time in Martina Franca (Taranto) at the second edition of the Are-Apulian runway experience, which took place throughout five stages, including Bari, Trani, and Lecce. Rea Space manufactures clothes for orbital missions, aimed at combating muscle mass loss, and has already achieved a milestone with its intravehicular suit, Emsi, which was part of a space journey aboard Elon Musk’s SpaceX CrewDragon. "We are working on five projects for as many suits with different characteristics, all made in Puglia except for the fabric, along with the development of spacecraft components such as seats integrated into the suit system", explained Flavio Augusto Gentile, co-founder and CEO of Rea Space. "Two suits are for intravehicular use, one for extravehicular planetary activities, including walking on another planet, and the others for military purposes. We are continuing product testing to fully develop the suit for the Lunar Gateway in 2028 and for astronauts who will have a permanent presence on the Moon by 2030".
