Cecilia Becattini, the newly elected President of the Italian Society of Internal Medicine (SIMI), will take the reins of the society during the three-year period 2028-2030. This is an absolute first for this, which is Italy's oldest medical society (SIMI was founded in 1887). Until now, only male medical luminaries had been at its helm. After more than 140 years of the life of this scientific society, it will therefore be up to Professor Becattini, full professor of Internal Medicine at the University of Perugia and director of the school of specialization in Emergency-Urgent Medicine, to interrupt this sequence. An expert in venous thrombo-embolism, Professor Becattini, former President of the Tosco-Umbria section of SIMI, is a member of the Task Force for the "Diagnosis and Management of Acute Pulmonary Embolism" of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) and of the working groups "Pulmonary Circle and Right Ventricular Function" and "Diseases of the Aorta and Peripheral Arteries" also of the ESC. She is also Deputy Editor of the international peer-reviewed journal "Internal and Emergency Medicine" and author of numerous scientific publications in prestigious international journals (New England Journal of Medicine, Circulation, European Heart Journal, etc.). Professor Becattini has also coordinated a number of international and national multicenter clinical trials.
