FTTH connections (fiber to the home) will not be able to replace copper and FTTC connections (fiber to the cabin) in our country until 2036. Similarly, in terms of 5G, the population's percentage of SIM cards remains somewhat higher than 20%. In addition to enhancing a nation's economic competitiveness on a global scale, the availability of Internet access through a cutting-edge network is a critical factor in fostering social inclusivity. Although Europe is catching up with other key global economic areas in terms of network access share from a technology standpoint, there is still a significant gap in terms of standalone 5G adoption in the mobile telephony mix. These findings are part of the report "Objective: Connected Italy. The Evolution of Telecommunications Networks in Italy between the elimination of the digital divide and the switch-off" produced by the Institute for Competitiveness (I-Com).
