For the first time, bottles of sparkling wine headed abroad (528 million) surpass those of reds and rosés (524 million) and stretch further ahead of whites (460 million). For Italian wine, this is a historic overtaking, destined to consolidate in light of a race, that of bubblies, which has seen its production quintuple in the space of two decades and which is set to break the record quota of one billion bottles by the end of the year, with 355 million pieces consumed in Italy and around the world for the holidays alone. While in the front row in terms of sales is Prosecco, the data report the success of almost all sparkling wine labels with foreign sales growth reaching six billion euros in the first nine months of the year. Italy is thus increasingly turning into a Sparkling Wine Country.
