Christmas 2024 marks a return to growth for Italian household consumption, showing a moderate recovery in spending on the main areas related to the holidays. There are positive signs compared to 2023: spending on dinner is up +3.5%, gift budgets are up +2%, and Christmas travel is up +4% compared to 2023. Confidence is growing, but the focus on affordability remains high. This is according to a survey conducted by the Unimpresa Study Center, on a representative sample of 4,500 households, which involved all the association's territorial offices scattered throughout the country. The data show a widespread improvement over Christmas 2023, although in an economic environment still affected by inflation and a general climate of caution. The survey analyzed three areas of spending: Christmas dinner, gifts and Christmas vacations, showing significant percentage increases over last year, but still far from pre-pandemic levels. The Christmas dinner tradition remains central for Italians, with an estimated average expenditure of 150 euros per family, up from 145 euros in 2023 (+3.5%). 28% of Italians say they will increase their budget, especially to buy quality products such as meats, artisanal desserts and fine wines. 60% will keep their spending unchanged, while only 12% will reduce it, marking a significant drop from last year's 18%.
