The demand for ICT professionals in Italy remains strong. In one year there were 184 thousand ads posted on LinkedIn for professionals with ICT skills. This demand is no longer the sole preserve of IT companies, but also extends across traditionally non-digital sectors, such as Consulting and Support (8,072 ads), Engineering and Construction (6,234 ads) and Energy and Resources (4,465 ads). Among the most sought-after roles are Web Developers (more than 21,800 listings) and Software Developers, but also Data Analysts and technical support figures such as the IT Specialist. Key skills include SQL - in demand in nearly 25 thousand ads - and programming languages such as Java, Python and JavaScript. Demand for soft skills is also growing: more than 15 thousand ads cite project management as a core competency, signaling the need for figures capable of combining technical and organizational skills. The problem is that in Italy, less than half of the working-age population (46%) possess basic digital skills and only 22% reach an advanced level, well below the European average. This gap does not only affect workers: the country also lags behind the EU average on the digitization of public services aimed at citizens and businesses. ICT graduates have increased by 7% in the last year: an encouraging but insufficient figure, since they represent only 6% of the total.
