Work has begun on the restoration of the Palatine Chapel mosaics in Palermo's Royal Palace, which will shine again within a year. The work, entrusted to the firm Lithos Restauri of Venice and designed by the Palermo Superintendency of Cultural Heritage, is being financed by the Ministry of the Interior's Religious Buildings Foundation to the tune of 1.1 million euros. The Superintendency of Palermo, headed by Selima Giuliano, will coordinate the work in agreement with the Regional Department of Cultural Heritage. Present at the official handover of the construction site were ARS President Gaetano Galvagno, Palermo Prefect Massimo Mariani, Councillor Francesco Paolo Scarpinato and Monsignor Michele Polizzi, parish priest of the Palatine Chapel.
