A major joint exercise between the Italian Air Force and the United States Air Force took place in the skies of Kuwait recently, with the goal of testing and refining the planning and execution skills of a Close Air Support (CAS) operation. The event featured the participation of Italian and US assets to demonstrate the success of the international anti-ISIS coalition, which is part of the multinational campaign "Prima Parthica/Ineherent Resolve". The exercise was divided into two phases: in the first, Italian assets were used to escort a convoy heading towards a predetermined goal; the high technology used by the Italian assets in flight allowed personnel on the ground to gain a better understanding of the current situation, allowing them to identify the presence of asymmetrical threats and thus ensuring freedom of movement. In the second phase, however, the Italian air forces gave direct support to the troops on the ground who were attempting to capture a local High Valuable Individual. During this phase, the Italian assets played a critical part in the mission's success, displaying their capacity to respond quickly and precisely to any threats.
