The National Health Service is facing a significant personnel crisis, having lost more than €28 billion in 11 years, more than half of which occurred between 2020 and 2023. In a report, the Gimbe Foundation shows how employee spending has steadily decreased, from 33.5% of overall health spending in 2012 to 30.6% in 2023. This fall resulted in a €28.1 billion loss, which had a substantial impact on health-care workers, who had their funding reduced. In the 2020-2023 period, the economic sacrifice amounted to 15.5 billion euros. Nino Cartabellotta, president of the Foundation, emphasized that if personnel spending had remained at 2012 levels, SSN professionals would not have suffered such losses.
