"Between paper bombs, smoke bombs, and aggressions, last night in Rome we witnessed yet another, ignoble episode of disturbance and chaos by the usual rioters who took to the streets not to protest a cause, but out of pure vengeance. A tragedy cannot be exploited to justify violence. We extend our support to the police and extend our best wishes for the swift recovery of the injured officers. We're on your side". Thus, stated Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni following the clashes that happened on Saturday evening in Rome during a demonstration in memory of Ramy, the kid who was killed in Milan during a chase with the police, an incident currently under investigation for manslaughter. Clashes also occurred in Bologna and Milan. "Tonight's protest (Saturday, ed.) in Bologna was not a legitimate protest, but pure violence and devastation", says Minister of University and Research Annamaria Bernini. "I firmly condemn these shameful acts of vandalism and reiterate my full solidarity with the police, particularly the injured officers. There is no excuse for people who transform protests into chaos. A thought of closeness to the city's Jewish community, which was the target of a cowardly attack. We will not remain silent". Nicola Molteni, the Undersecretary of the Interior, calls for the swift approval of the Security Bill. "The unauthorized demonstration of San Lorenzo in Rome resulted in the injury of eight policemen, one of whom was struck in the face, as well as the placement of paper bombs and banners against the Police Forces. A display of violence, chaos, and urban warfare against the police of unprecedented gravity. Solidarity and support for our law enforcement, and immediate approval of the Government’s Security Bill to provide greater protection to the men and women in uniform, the pride of our country".
