New case of racism shakes Italian soccer. During Brescia-Sampdoria, a match that ended 1-1, Nigerian midfielder Ebenezer Akinsanmiro, on loan from Inter Milan, was the target of racist howls from the North Bend of Rigamonti Stadium. In response, after the goal signed by Brescia’s Coda, Akinsanmiro exulted by imitating a gorilla toward the Brescia fans, a gesture that cost him a caution. To calm tempers, coach Semplici replaced him. Sampdoria expressed full solidarity with the player, denouncing the incident on its social channels. However, Brescia coach Pierpaolo Bisoli criticized Akinsanmiro in the postgame: "A player cannot make a gesture like that toward the public, it incites violence. I did not hear anything from the curve and I think it is not right to respond in that way”.
