The Turin Court of Appeals has acquitted Alex Cotoia, a 22-year-old man accused of killing his father Giuseppe Pompa in 2020 to defend his mother during a violent family dispute. At the time of the events, Alex still bore his father's surname, later changed to his mother's. The case had been reopened after the Supreme Court overturned on remand an earlier sentence of six years and two months. The incident dates back to April 30, 2020, when in their home in Collegno, in the Turin area, Alex stabbed his father to protect his mother, who had been the victim of years of abuse and violence, also shared by the rest of the family. The Court's decision closes a court case marked by dramatic incidents of domestic violence.
