Furio Colombo, one of Italy's most famous journalists, died Thursday at the age of 94 in Rome. His family announced the news. Colombo was a prominent figure in the Italian journalistic scene, having held a number of important positions, including correspondent for Rai and correspondent from the United States, columnist for La Repubblica, director of L'Unità, and one of the founders of Il Fatto Quotidiano. Beyond journalism, he served three terms in parliament, representing DS, Ulivo, and the Democratic Party. His career has not been restricted to journalism and politics; he has also written literary and cinematic works, served as director of the Cultural Institute of New York for three years, and is a Columbia University professor. In addition, he has held major corporate responsibilities, initially with Olivetti and later as Fiat's agent in the US.
