Devices seized on December 16 during the U.S.- requested arrest of Mohammad Abedini Najafabadi, the Iranian engineer recently freed by a decision of Justice Minister Carlo Nordio - are still held in a safe at the Milan Prosecutor's Office. Among the seized devices are smartphones, tablets, USB flash drives, and datasheets that Abedini had with him in a trolley bag at the time of his arrest. These computer media contain information believed to be of great interest to the United States. It is not ruled out that the devices could be handed over in copies through international letters rogatory, although, as of yet, there is no official request for judicial assistance, which must go through the Ministry. Abedini's release had taken place after the release of journalist Cecilia Sala, who had been detained in Iran for 21 days, but the release petition did not mention the seized devices, as the Milan Prosecutor's Office's practice does not provide for communication of the seizure to either the Court or the Prosecutor General's Office. Therefore, the devices remained in the hands of the Milan offices.
